Democrats vying to be Virginia s governor
The Democrats running for governor have five more days to convince voters that they should hold the highest office in Virginia.
Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center for Civic Leaderships’ latest poll has Terry McAuliffe with a strong 47% lead. He boasts his track record as Governor despite working with a right-wing legislature. With a Democrat majority in the General Assembly, he said this time will be different.
“We’ve had 182,000 Virginians lose their jobs during COVID,” McAuliffe said. “We had 700,000 Virginians without access to healthcare including 100,000 children. We need someone who has the experience, the relationships.”
A new poll from Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center for Civic Leadership shows Virginia voters rank themselves as moderate, but support some Democratic proposals.

RICHMOND, Va. - Delegate Kirk Cox, R-Colonial Heights, has his sights set on the Virginia executive mansion in November, but first he must beat six other candidates for the Republican nomination.
It’s the first time Cox, the former speaker of the House, is running for governor. Cox, 63, has served as a state delegate since 1990 and was elected as speaker of the House by a unanimous vote in 2018. He served one term in the position before Democrats took control of the Virginia General Assembly.

NEWPORT NEWS (WINA) – A new Christopher Newport University Wason Center poll shows former Governor Terry McAuliffe with a stranglehold among the five hopefuls looking for the Democrats’ nomination for Governor in a June 8 primary. Wason Center Research Director Rebecca Bromley-Trujillo says he has huge name recognition, is nationally known, is a fundraising powerhouse, and offers a messaging at the pragmatic one who is most electable. Although she says a sizeable percentage is “undecided”, it’s a tough haul for anyone else none of whom are in double digits to make it to the top.
