By the end of March, every adult in Ohio, along with 16- and 17-year-olds, will be eligible to receive a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. But are local clinics, pharmacies, and health departments ready to meet the growing demand?
Over the next few weeks, the Cintas Center on Xavier University s campus will provide 10,000 first doses and 10,000 second doses. Thatâs nearly double the capacity of the arena itself. Even with the rollout ramping up, that doesnât mean newly eligible people will get vaccinated right away.

Hamilton County officials marked St. Patrick’s Day cheering news that more residents will soon be able to sign up for vaccination, a necessary defense as the rate of infection remains high and the spread of coronavirus variants is inevitable.
Health Commissioner Greg Kesterman noted Wednesday the measure of infection spread, or the R-naught, has been dropping for weeks thanks to wider vaccine distribution and health precautions of masking, social distancing and handwashing. This week, though, the R-naught in Hamilton County and across the Cincinnati region has stabilized at the worrisome level that suggests contagion could be accelerating.
At the county’s weekly pandemic briefing, Kesterman said that while the R-naught is concerning, the dropping case counts and hospitalizations overall tell him the county is a better position now in fighting the coronavirus
