CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â With COVID-19 cases once again surging in the Coastal Bend, Corpus Christi, Nueces County, and local hospitals held a briefing Wednesday to update the public and urge them to get vaccinated.
âItâs as if the virus is fighting us back, Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales said. And we know that todayâs vaccines work against this crazy mutation that is known as the Delta variant.â
The Delta variant is a mutation of the original coronavirus strain and is responsible for increases in hospitalizations and deaths across the country and here locally.

Today, Christus Spohn Health System and Oceans Healthcare unveiled plans to build a new, state-of-the-art behavioral health unit at Christus Spohn Shoreline.
The two-floor unit will have 40 beds, along with the most up-to-date technology. Nearly 150 trained healthcare professionals will be on hand to help those who face mental health challenges. I think that when we talk about our community, we need to recognize that our wellness is part of our health,â Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales said.

On Thursday, Christus Spohn Health System and Oceans Healthcare unveiled plans to build a new, state-of-the-art behavioral health unit at Christus Spohn-Shoreline.
CHRISTUS Spohn and Texas-based Oceans entered into a management agreement in August 2020 with the intention of expanding behavioral health services in the Coastal Bend.
Since that time, CHRISTUS Spohn has increased its inpatient capacity for adult behavioral health services, treating 27% more patients than compared to the year prior.

CHRISTUS Spohn Health System surpasses 100k mark for COVID-19 vaccine administrations

This week, CHRISTUS Spohn Health System achieved a major milestone in efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, surpassing 100,000 COVID-19 vaccines given throughout the Coastal Bend.
It was December 2020 when CHRISTUS Spohn received its first shipment of vaccines from the State of Texas and immediately began administering to front line health care workers. Since then, we have answered the call to serve as vaccine hubs in the Alice, Beeville and Kingsville communities. Local government, law enforcement and community agencies in Bee, Jim Wells and Kleberg all contributed to successful vaccination events, while also supporting our Associates. CHRISTUS Spohn also continued its strong partnership with the City of Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District, providing personnel and support during vaccine clinics at various locations stretching from the west side of Corpus Christi to P
