Nurses, doctor expected to join former Canucks singer at Freedom Rally in Vancouver

VANCOUVER Several nurses and a doctor are listed among the guest speakers at a planned rally against COVID-19 restrictions in downtown Vancouver this weekend, raising concerns about the possibility of medical professionals lending legitimacy to misinformation. The BC Grand Freedom Rally event is being held outside the Vancouver Art Gallery on Saturday afternoon, and former Canucks anthem singer Mark Donnelly is scheduled to appear as well. At previous events, Donnelly has railed against social distancing, masks and restrictions as ineffective, unnecessary and harmful. One of the speakers is Kristen Nagle, the neonatal intensive care nurse from Ontario who was fired after attending an anti-lockdown rally in Washington, D.C. on the day of the Capitol riot.

Protesters gather in downtown Vancouver for rally against COVID-19 restrictions

VANCOUVER Just one day after federal health officials issued a dire warning about the possibility that COVID-19 variants could cause case counts to skyrocket, hundreds of unmasked protesters gathered at the Vancouver Art Gallery for an event dubbed the “BC Grand Freedom Rally.” A pair of Ontario nurses travelled to B.C. to take part in the event, which featured anti-maskers and other COVID-19 conspiracy theorists. We have doctors and nurses, some of them have been threatened to lose their jobs, some of them have already lost their jobs,” said event co-organizer Vladislav Sobolev. Neonatal ICU nurse Kristen Nagle, who lost her job in London, Ont. after speaking at a rally in Washington, D.C. on the day of the riot at the U.S. Capitol, addressed the crowd of hundreds at the art gallery Saturday afternoon.

The Rebel to Rabble Review: Rebel sticks a fork in Alberta s lockdown

iPolitics By iPolitics. Published on Jan 29, 2021 12:01am After turning her YouTube spotlight on a barbershop in Innisfail, Alta., as it proudly (albeit temporarily, as it turned out) reopened for business earlier this month despite ongoing provincewide social-distancing restrictions, Rebel News Alberta bureau chief Sheila Gunn Reid spent the weekend chronicling yet another “lockdown rebellion … underway in small-town Alberta,” courtesy of the Whistle Stop Diner in a place called Mirror. “Population 500, Mirror is about 1.5 hours southeast of Edmonton, and it’s home to a delicious protest against the lockdown.” It began “late last week,” when owner Chris Scott defied the temporary shutdown order to “swing his doors open to hungry diners looking for a hot meal, a strong coffee, and a little bit of normalcy.”
