Although the City Council agenda did not include the name of the contractor who won the bid, the mayor’s office said later that it was Monumental Contracting Service, a minority-owned firm based in Birmingham. Rick Journey, spokesman for Mayor Randall Woodfin’s office, said that construction is expected to be completed by May.

McKee Now Plans To Build 4 New Facilities In Collegedale As Part Of $500 Million Expansion Wednesday, January 20, 2021 - by Gail Perry Last year, Collegedale along with the Hamilton County Industrial Development Board, entered into a PILOT agreement with McKee Foods that was effective Jan. 1, 2020. At the commission meeting on Tuesday night, Attorney Kurt Faires with the Chambliss, Bahner and Stophel law firm, requested approval from the city for an amendment to the agreement. He said this is the largest investment ever made in Hamilton County by a locally owned business. The investment by McKee will be one half billion - about $500 million, he said.

Another school in Duncan closed due to suspicious fire

  VICTORIA A second suspicious fire in the Cowichan Valley area cancelled classes at an elementary school on Friday. The fire was discovered near École Mount Prevost in Duncan around 7:10 a.m. by a neighbour of the school. The flames were quickly extinguished by the North Cowichan Fire Department and Mounties. The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP and specialized fire investigators are now looking into the incident. It s the second time this week that a suspicious fire closed a school in Duncan. On Monday, all classes at Drinkwater Elementary were cancelled for the day after a fire filled the building’s halls and classrooms with smoke.
