What MMSD classrooms now look like as students start returning this week

MADISON, Wis. It’s an important week for the Madison school district as it begins the transition of bringing students back into the classroom.
It was March 15, 2020 when the Public Health Madison Dane County shut down schools to slow the spread of COVID-19. For MMSD a shutdown that was anticipated to last a few weeks lasted nearly a year. News 3 Now’s Chris Stanford recently got a look inside a Kindergarten classroom to see what will be different when students start returning Tuesday.

LIVERMORE FALLS Two dogs perished Tuesday night when a fire ripped through a two-story house at 53 Leeds Road, also known as Route 106, in the East Livermore area of town.
Investigators Chris Stanford, Isaiah Peppard and Sgt. Ed Archer from the Office of the State Fire Marshal were on the scene Wednesday with Fire Rescue Chief Edward Hastings IV and Assistant Chiefs Tyler Poulin and Ben Guild, to investigate the cause.
Making your mask work better

MADISON, Wis. An invention from the UW-Madison College of Engineering recently got somewhat of an endorsement from the CDC.
The Badger Seal is a device that goes over your mask. It’s designed to eliminate gaps so fewer particles escape or are inhaled. A video demonstration from the university shows how a mask fitted with the Badger Seal performs a lot better.

Teachers union caught off guard by MMSD reopening plan

A spokesperson for Madison Teacher’s Inc. says they were unaware of the timing of the announcement and there was miscommunication with the district over when the news would be made public.
“The decision to do this caught everyone off guard,” MTI Spokesperson Ed Sadlowski said Thursday.
Madison Teachers Inc. leaders have been working with the district on a plan to reopen. Sadlowski says the district has not met many items on MTI’s list of expectations for teachers to come back to schools, including voluntary returns and hazard pay.
