Apple’s tracker tags go on sale today, and while it’s not an extended test, Mobile Editor Chris Velazco has been trying to lose his keys and find them again for a whole day. In real life, the AirTag is a little larger than a quarter and roughly the same size as those little buttons you pin to your bag or lapel. It still crams in a user-replaceable CR2032 battery, Bluetooth radio, NFC and a little speaker that plays a “surprisingly loud” alert tone.
Chris explains that the tags are incredibly easy to pair: Once you remove a tab blocking the AirTag’s battery, your nearby iOS device should detect it in seconds. Give it a name and you’re ready to find it when you lose it.
This week, Cherlynn and Devindra chat with Engadget’s Chris Velazco about Apple’s AirTags and the new purple iPhone. We dive into what it’s like to use the AirTags to find things, and their potential limitations. Meanwhile, the purple iPhone is indeed very purple. Also, they chat about why Microsoft buying Nuance is such a huge deal, and how useful Amazon’s AR hair salon could be.

The first reviews of the iPhone 12 in Apple s newly-introduced Purple color option for the spring have now been shared by various media outlets and YouTubers, and the overall consensus is that the new color is more of a lavender shade than purple.
The Verge s Dieter Bohn described the new color as more like a lilac, but still said that it was unmistakable:
It s a lightish shade of purple. One might be tempted to call it lavender, but to me it s a bit more like a lilac or maybe a wisteria. It lacks the redness you d expect in a mauve or the blue tones you d see in a violet. There are many shades of purple, but this one is what Apple went with and I like it. It s unmistakable even at a distance, whereas the light green iPhone 12 models could be mistaken for off-white in certain light. I am also glad it doesn t have a fancy name. It s just purple.
