As in a previous debate, Republican Mark Moores repeatedly described Melanie Stansbury as a “radical” on environmental, immigration and criminal justice issues during the hourlong debate. ...................... Specifically, he claimed the Democratic candidate supports legislation that would halt deportations of individuals convicted of criminal offenses and even brought up Stanbury’s graduate thesis at Cornell University. Meanwhile, independent candidate Aubrey Dunn, a former state land commissioner, at one point questioned Stansbury’s motives for moving to New Mexico.

CD1 race offers first chance to register, vote through Election Day

Copyright © 2021 Albuquerque Journal SANTA FE – The special election to fill a vacant Albuquerque-area congressional seat, which got underway this week with the start of early and absentee voting, is breaking new ground in New Mexico. (Adolphe Pierre-Louis/Albuquerque Journal) That’s because for the first time, qualified residents will be able to register to vote and cast a ballot on the same day through Election Day. The arrival of Election Day voter registration is due to a 2019 law that, per its terms, has been gradually phased in to give county clerks more time to prepare.

Early voting for CD-1 special election has begun in county

Early voting in the special election to fill the vacant seat in the U.S. House of Representatives for New Mexico Congressional District 1 began on Tuesday, May 4. The congressional district includes a small part of Valencia County â voting precincts 6, 16, 22, 28, 49, 50, 56 and 60 â on the east side of the county. Communities in those precincts include Meadow Lake, Monterey Park, El Cerro Mission, Cypress Gardens and El Cerro. The seat became vacant when Rep. Deb Haaland left the position when she was selected as Secretary of the Interior earlier this year, and now a special election must be held to fill her seat for the remainder of her term.
