CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH A possible overdose death occurred over the weekend in Cleveland Heights, police confirmed.
On Saturday, a 24-year-old Cleveland man was found dead in an apartment on Lancanshire Road. Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg said investigators believe the man s death was the result of an overdose.
Detectives are still investigating the man s death.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ohio has seen a statewide spike in overdose deaths, particularly deaths associated with opioids. During the second quarter of 2020, Ohio s death rate from opioid overdoses jumped to 11.01 per 100,000 people the highest rate seen in a decade. The previous 10-year high was in the first quarter of 2017, when opioid overdoses effected 10.87 people per 100,000.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH Police are investigating a possible overdose death in Cleveland Heights.
A 45-year-old woman was found dead inside a home in the Forest Hill neighborhood on Tuesday morning. She was taken to the hospital at 2:43 a.m. by the Cleveland Heights Fire Department but later died.
Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg said they believe the woman died of an overdose. Investigators are waiting on a toxicology report from the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner s office.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH After the Cleveland Heights Teachers Union lambasted the district for planning a March 1 return to in-person education, Superintendent Elizabeth Kirby has responded.
In an open letter to the union, Kirby said returning to classrooms by March 1 will get staffers vaccinated quicker than remaining remote through the end of the school year. She also said many students are suffering in the remote-only model. While teachers have worked hard to implement remote learning this year, as I review the attendance, assessment and grade data for the first semester, it is clear that remote learning is simply not meeting the needs of many of our students, Kirby wrote.
