A 50-year-old man who died after stabbing a Hong Kong police officer was a lone wolf attacker who had been politically radicalised , the city s security chief said Friday.
Footage of Thursday evening s attack was caught by a local journalist s livestream.
It showed a man in a dark t-shirt stabbing an officer in the back in the shopping district of Causeway Bay.
Police said the man who has not been publicly identified by authorities then stabbed himself in the chest and later died of his wounds.
The 28-year-old male officer suffered a punctured lung and underwent surgery overnight.

HONG KONG: The 50-year-old man who stabbed a Hong Kong policeman on the anniversary of the city s return to Chinese rule on Thursday (Jul 1) was a lone wolf who committed a terrorist act, Secretary for Security Chris Tang said.
Police said late on Thursday they were investigating an attempted murder and suicide after a man attacked a police officer from behind at 10.05pm local time, then stabbed himself in the chest with the knife.

Police said late on Thursday they were investigating an attempted murder and suicide after a man attacked a police officer from behind at 10.05 p.m. (1405 GMT), then stabbed himself in the chest with the knife.
The man was sent to the hospital, where he died about an hour later. The policeman, 28, sustained a 10 centimetres wound on his back and a punctured lung and underwent surgery, police said.
