New Zealand health officials are in touch with counterparts in Europe after a small number of deaths in frail older people who received a Covid-19 vaccination in Norway. The Norwegian Medicines Agency on Thursday (NZ time Friday) reported a total of 29 people had suffered side-effects, 13 of them fatal, from the vaccine produced by Pfizer-BioNTec. All the deaths occurred among patients in nursing homes and all were over the age of 80. More than 30,000 people have received the first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna coronavirus vaccine in the Scandinavian country since the end of December, according to official figures. Norway has said it is “not alarmed” by the handful of adverse reactions and the vaccine presents “very little risk”.

Tom “Tomcat” Courtney died Monday at Sharp Grossmont Hospital, only days after suffering a stroke on Jan. 6. He was 91, just 12 days shy of turning 92.

Two men from Aylesbury have been fined after they were caught attending an illegal rave in Wales. Luke Horwood, 18, and Dean Horwood, 37, were collectively fined £1,064 after they were seen at a four-day unlicensed music event, which took place over the August Bank Holiday Weekend last year. The event, which had four stages, was held in the village of Banwen in South Wales, and attracted between 3,000 and 4,000 people. At a special court hearing at Swansea Magistrates on Monday, January 11, Luke Horwood and Dean Horwood were two of 10 defendants who pleaded guilty to gathering outdoors with more than 30 people. Gathering in large groups violates the Welsh Government’s legislation on coronavirus.
