According to a news release from the Department of Public Health District 2, which includes Forsyth and 12 other counties in northeast Georgia, the department recently reached the milestone and is averaging over 11,000 vaccines given per week over the last eight weeks.  “We have a committed group of public health employees who have persevered through Covid-19 testing and vaccination while continuing to deliver services to our communities,” District Health Director Dr. Zach Taylor said in a news release. “With the vaccination effort, we expanded our full-and-part-time workforce, partnered with nursing programs in our area, and deployed our volunteer base to make this possible.

Cumming Fairgrounds to be used as vaccination site

Cumming Fairgrounds to be used as vaccination site Some local vaccine distribution will be moved from the Forsyth County Department of Health to the Cumming Fairgrounds. At a recent meeting, the Cumming City Council approved allowing vaccine distribution at Horton Hall at the fairgrounds as of Monday, Feb. 15. City Administrator Phil Higgins said he had recently met with officials with the department and Chris Grimes, Forsyth County Emergency Management Agency director, about why the fairgrounds would be a better location than the department’s office on Canton Highway. “The challenge now, is the seating space inside the facility is small and parking is limited,” Higgins said. “They need more room for social distancing, and additional parking is desperately needed.”

Grimes updates Forsyth County commissioners on vaccine distribution

This is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. So just because [we have] our volunteers, we may not be able to use them at the events like last week and this week, we’re in this for the long haul, and we’re going to continue to support public health going forward,” Chris Grimes said.

(Shutterstock) FORSYTH COUNTY, GA Forsyth County held two COVID-19 vaccination events last week, with two more completely booked, appointment-based events set for this week. The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recognized the need to increase the opportunity for residents to receive COVID-19 vaccines. County departments worked together to organize the events. Our Emergency Management Director Chris Grimes pulled together resources from the county s Information Systems & Technologies, Fire Department and Sheriff s Office, as well our partners at Northside Hospital and Public Health, to make these appointments available, said County Manager Kevin Tanner. We also greatly appreciate the two organizations from our faith community who are allowing us to use their facilities.
