Subscriber only Just four days after being released from custody, a 25-year-old man living in Gympie breached a domestic violence order by sitting in court with the woman who took out the DVO, and then seeing her again days later. The father of one, who grew up in Brisbane, said the woman had contacted his brother saying an application for a variation of the protection order was being heard in court and he needed to attend. Police prosecutor Melissa Campbell said the defendant had received no documentation or notice from the court or police, but attended court on January 25 anyway.

John Allan Black served 12 years for the shooting manslaughter of a Mt Isa man. John Allan Black, 45, repeatedly evaded police and drove on the wrong side of the road on a meth-addled getaway that ended when he crashed on a dead-end road in Gympie last September. Black appeared via videolink in the Gympie District Court last December, pleading guilty to two counts each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle with prior convictions and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while adversely affected with prior convictions as well as nine summary offences.

Subscriber only A FATHER who sent his ex-partner a barrage of sickening and degrading texts has been given a suspended jail term with a stern warning from Gympie Magistrate Chris Callaghan. The vile insults were read out in court on Monday - which had been sent over an eighth-month period and had contravened a domestic violence order that was in place. Monster, cow f , c , parasite, dog f -wit, watch your putrid mouth b , you should never have done the sweet dog act, you can go to hell, you moral-less dog, were attributed to the man, who sent the texts between November 15, 2019 and July 21, last year.

A 59-year-old Gympie man’s decision to self-medicate for back pain with marijuana cost him $300 this week.
Bruce Andrew Godden was busted with five marijuana plants 15-20cm high in his garage when police were called to investigate a dispute at his house on November 30.
Gympie Magistrates Court heard officers saw a small quantity of plants inside the garage as they approached his front door.
Godden tried to draw their attention away from the plants, but when police asked him about them he walked over and “began to pull them out”. Gympie Magistrate Chris Callaghan congratulated Mr Godden on his decision to try to gain access to medical marijuana as “the right thing”.
