The Sunshine Coast has been revealed as one of the major winners in the federal government’s half-price airfare initiative.
Designed to stimulate domestic travel within Australia, 800,000 half-priced fares were made available through airlines and travel agents on April 1.
The flights, taking off between April 1 and the end of September, were part of the federal government‘s $1.2bn tourism support package.
Since going on sale, about 663,000 of the discounted fares were already purchased with the final few expected to sell within days.

A submerged car and a busted, snail-covered, salt-eaten safe were uncovered this week in Portland, Maine, baffling locals.
