The ageless high street capsule: jeans, co-ords, coats and suits
For decades, the Perfect Capsule Wardrobe has been the stylish person’s holy grail. But what does it mean? For me, it’s about a wardrobe of more or less timeless clothes that guarantee I always have something that doesn’t just do the job, but brings me joy. And when I say job, I mean jobs. We all need flexible outfit options.

What happened when a shopping editor found out how many clothes she really has
A new wardrobe-management app forces you to assess your buying habits.
The app that will change the way you get dressed and store your clothes.
It’s my job to be great at shopping. Add to this the fact that I have been nicknamed ‘Krissy Kondo’, such is my love for a Perspex storage box, and you’d think I’d already have a recipe for wardrobe success, right?
I shop logically, rather than spontaneously, always considering how I’ll wear something and how often before I buy it. It means I have a wardrobe (and then some) packed full of things I’m pleased to own: jumpsuits, shirts, blazers, dresses and soft knits. So much so that I’ve had to get creative with storage.
Why it’s right for now: Throughout lockdown, we were all dressing to be seen from the waist up. Statement earrings, collared blouses, padded headbands – items that could add some impact to one’s appearance on video calls sold especially well for high street retailers. But now the bottom half is back. As we reunite with friends and family, it’s time to seize the opportunity to remind them that you do have legs. Let bold, wide-leg trousers and fun printed skirts be the focal point of all outfits going forward.
How to wear it: These wide-leg cotton Numie trousers come in a rich sunflower colour and have a gentle paper-bag waist tied with a belt. Whatever top you choose needs to be tucked in to allow these features to be seen and to give the illusion of longer legs.
