The impact of COVID-19 is showing markedly for some households and regions, the latest research finds.
Around 1.114 million adults say their households are financially worse off than last year, while around 575,000 say they’re better off.
Data from Horizon Research shows people in some regions feeling much worse off than in others.
On the South Island’s West Coast 53% say their households are worse off, compared with the national average of 33%.
Others feeling worse than average include Canterbury 44% and Northland 42%.

about the same as a year ago.

The Horizon Research survey of 1595 people was conducted this month, painting a picture of the financial situation people find themselves in during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Half of the people said their financial position is much the same, while 16 percent said they are better off.
People aged 35 to 44 were worst hit, with 43 percent saying they were worse off.
People aged 25 to 34 were most likely to be better off, with 25 percent saying their financial situation had improved.
