“The Cry” producer Synchronicity Films has optioned the rights to Graeme Armstrong’s acclaimed debut novel “The Young Team,” with BAFTA-winning “The Last Czars” helmer Adrian McDowall on board to direct.
Emerging British writer Ben Tagoe (“In The Long Run,” “Stan Lee’s Lucky Man”) is on board as screenwriter, while Armstrong whose own personal experiences inform his novel will serve as consultant on the project.

Glasgow-based indie Synchronicity Films (The Cry) is adapting Scottish writer Graeme Armstrong’s debut novel The Young Team as a drama series.

The prodco has acquired the adaptation rights and already attached Adrian McDowall (The Last Czars) to direct, with leading British writer Ben Tagoe on board as screenwriter. Armstrong will act as consultant on the project.
The story is set in the housing schemes of Scotland’s former industrial heartland where teenage boys become embroiled in a booze and blades culture.

The TV adaptation will follow 15-year-old Azzy during three crucial years of his life, viewing the world through his eyes as he navigates Scottish masculinity, gang violence, substance abuse, mental health, male suicide and murder.
