From Monday, April 19, Cadent workers will upgrade the gas mains on Ormston Avenue. Gas will remain on during the work but in some cases properties that have a direct feed from the pipe being replaced will lose supply for up to 12 hours as their building is connected in to the new main. But everyone affected will be given notice of this, Cadent said. The programme will factor in and seek to avoid clashing with any major events that may take place once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. Craig Horrocks, who heads Cadent’s gas mains upgrade work in the region, said: “More than 80 per cent of homes in the North West rely on gas for central heating and it’s our job to make sure they get it, safely and reliably, every minute of every day of the year.
Major gas works for the next three weeks in Denshaw Date published: 19 January 2021
The work is expected to last three weeks.
Work has begun on a major gas mains project in Denshaw which is expected to last three weeks.
The project, to upgrade one of Oldham’s oldest gas mains which pre-dates the First World War is being carried out by Cadent who manage the gas pipe network in the north west.
Engineers began work in Denshaw on Friday (15 January) to replace a 170-metre section of the local gas network. It s part of a rolling programme to replace metallic mains with plastic pipes helping to get the local network ready to start carrying green gases like hydrogen.
A MAJOR project is set to begin in January to replace one of St Helens’ oldest underground gas mains, which pre-dates the Second World War. Cadent upgrades about 300 miles of its 21,000-mile North West network every year, as the older pipes reach the end of their safe operating lives. Next up in the rolling upgrade programme is a 366-metre long, 15-inch diameter pipe that runs under Borough Road, Prescot Road and into Boundary Road. Originally installed in 1930, it is one of the key routes for distributing gas to thousands of homes in the area. Gas will stay ON throughout the seven-week, £180,000 project, with the new pipe pushed into the old one. This significantly reduces the duration of work.
