Aberdeen City Council has agreed to seek advice on appealing the decision to award eight multi-storey buildings in the city Grade A listed status. The inner-city buildings were given the status by Historic Environment Scotland HES last month, on the basis of their “outstanding architectural and historic interest”. But the listing has proved controversial, with the Scottish Government’s housing minister Kevin Stewart saying it would restrict remedial and repair work on the buildings affecting thousands of people.

Kendra LaNae Malone, 33, and her son, 5-year-old Kamden Joseph Hayes, died in the duplex fire on January 30 on Craig Court. The Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire was an accident. The medical examiner performed autopsies, but the cause of death hasn t been released.

Council officers have warned a decision to give listed building status to eight high-rises in Aberdeen might place additional pressures on both staff and finances. Officers have said that there are implications for the council as a result of the decision, and submit an appeal if there are competent grounds to do so within the required timescale. The sites listed include Gilcomstoun Land, Porthill Court, Seamount Court, Virginia Court, Marischal Court, Thistle Court, Hutcheon Court and Greig Court – a total of 839 flats.
