The two councils currently lay one coffin on top of another in three-tiered graves when an individual or their family do not provide funds after death. Both insist the practice is dignified, although family and friends are barred from laying tributes or flowers.

Customers at the post office on Friday discovered the premises on Gray Street were shut. A sign on the door said: “Due to a Covid outbreak this PO is closed temporarily. We will re-open on Friday February 5 2020 at 8,30am. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. “Kind regards, Rafi, Jenny and Norma.” A spokesman for the Post Office said it was hoped the Broughty Ferry premises will reopen on February 5.
