Seven top local officials plan to run for Ventura County  offices next June, including the Thousand Oaks mayor who is seeking a seat on the Board of Supervisors. Mayor Claudia Bill-de la Peña, a longtime Thousand Oaks councilwoman,  plans to run for Linda Parks District 2 seat centered in the city. Parks is set to step down in January 2023 under term limits. In the interim, she faces a recall attempt by groups opposed to the board s decisions in January to sue businesses that refused to shut indoor operations to curb the pandemic. Four county officials intend to seek re-election, according to interviews and campaign finance documents. They are Sheriff Bill Ayub, Clerk-Recorder Mark Lunn, Auditor-Controller Jeff Burgh and Assessor Dan Goodwin. Incumbent Treasurer-Tax Collector Steven Hintz did not return a call regarding his election plans.

The CDAA asked for the investigation into itself after receiving an audit of internal accounting practices that showed unauthorized expenditures for funds that were specifically designated for environmental and worker safety training programs, documents show. “No one is more angry and disappointed than the Board and myself that these actions occurred,” said CDAA Chief Executive Officer Greg Totten. “A satisfactory resolution is our highest priority, and we are committed to restoring these funds.”
