(WHSV) - As more people get vaccinated against COVID-19, more travelers are getting comfortable with air travel, according to a report from AAA. The Shenandoah Valley Regional airport is already seeing an uptick in flyers. This time last year, the airport was reaching a low in travelers. Greg Campbell with SHD said they were almost non-existent. He said the last 12 months have been erratic with spikes and plateaus, but they are excited to see it pick back up.

Federal funding landing at SHD | WSVA News Talk Radio

18 hours ago in Local 4/9/21 The Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport is about to get a cash infusion. U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced a total of $19-million dollars in federal funding to provide economic relief to 11 airports across Virginia. The Weyers Cave airport is receiving just over 1-million dollars as a result of the funding. Executive Director Greg Campbell says this was something that commercial airports across the country collectively had asked Congress to support. The relief money was authorized under the December 2020 emergency COVID-19 relief bill supported by both the senators.   Tags: augusta, covid-19 funding, federal funding, Harrisonburg, rockingham, shenandoah valley airport, staunton, TIM KAINE, u.s. senator mark warner

Arts & Culture Newsletter: Carnegie Hall s Be the Light livestream keeps things upbeat

I’m David L. Coddon, and here’s your guide to all things essential in San Diego’s arts and culture this week. Are we starved for positive messages or what? I found some, appropriately enough, during the just-completed Easter/Passover season in a virtual offering from the free “Live with Carnegie Hall” livestream series. Producers Ray and Vivian Scott Chew hosted an hour of R&B and gospel music titled “Be the Light: A Joyful Celebration” that’s intended to uplift, inspire and bridge the sociopolitical and cultural divides tormenting us as a nation. Reflecting that mission is the opening video performance in the show: six-time Grammy winner Israel Houghton’s collaboration with Azi Schwartz, cantor of New York City’s Park Avenue Synagogue, on Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.” That’s followed by singer-songwriter Kenny Lattimore and a gifted college student covering Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy, Mercy Me,” then Ray Chew, on keyboards

Burbank Shootout: How cop Matthew Pavelka s murder by Vineland Boys gang led to 36 arrests by 1,300 officers

The gunfire that killed Matthew Pavelka Campbell s suspects were two men later identified as Ramon Arranda, and David Garcia who were in a black Cadillac Escalade near the Ramada Inn, just outside the Burbank Airport. Campbell noticed there was no license plate and since the area was suspicious for drug dealings, he requested the driver to step out of the vehicle. Campbell had already requested backup, and Pavelka was on the scene, approaching the vehicle by the time the driver, Arranda, got out and opened fire. He shot Campbell in the torso and side of the head, knocking the officer down before Pavelka engaged him. The passenger, Garcia, then stepped out and shot Pavelka repeatedly, after Arranda was fatally wounded.
