Soto got Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jesse Winker to ground out to second base for the first out. After the home run, his night in the spotlight improved. Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds grounded out to second on a first-pitch four-seam fastball, and Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier grounded out to short on the fifth pitch he saw a 99 mph four-seamer to end the inning.
Soto allowed one run on one hit, without a strikeout. But he left a big impression on baseball s national stage with the shiny, all-silver glove he wore on the mound.
Soto was the third Tigers reliever in four seasons to make the All-Star squad, following Joe Jimenez in 2018 and Shane Greene in 2019. (There was no All-Star Game in 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic.) Jimenez struck out the only batter he faced to finish the fourth inning in Washington, and Greene pitched a scoreless seventh inning against the NL in Cleveland.

DENVER (AP) â A Sho-case for Shohei Ohtani became a grand stage for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., too.
Ohtani unleashed his 100 mph heat while pitching a perfect inning for the win in becoming baseballâs first two-way All-Star, Guerrero rocked Coors Field with a 468-foot home run and the American League breezed 5-2 Tuesday night for its eighth straight victory.
Near and far, the sportâs entire focus was on Ohtani from the very start in this All-Star Game.
