For the most part, the NFL rookies who get the most attention are those selected early on in the draft. Quarterbacks also tend to get a ton of play as they prepare for their inaugural seasons in the pros.
With that said, we see mid-round picks excel every single year. We don’t expect 2021 to be the exception to this rule. From a talented wide receiver in Southern California to a few elite-level pass rushers, there will be some surprising rookies moving forward.
Narrowing down that list to teams we expect to earn a playoff spot in 2021, here’s a look at some NFL rookies set to surprise once September comes calling.

Last year’s Buffalo Bills team tied a franchise record with 13 wins on their way to the AFC Championship game for the first time since 1993.
All three AFC East teams have reloaded and the run through the division is looking like a considerably more difficult challenge in 2021. The Bills play the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rematch the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs and travel to New Orleans on Thanksgiving to play the Saints in primetime.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, now a member of the Washington Football Team after two years in Miami, will start at quarterback for his ninth NFL team this fall, presumably. He already holds the record among quarterbacks with starts for eight teams, a list that includes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before Miami and after (deep breath) the Rams, Bengals, Bills, Titans, Texans and Jets, Fitzpatrick stopped in Tampa for the 2017-18 seasons and started 10 games.
