Three Georgia men pleaded not guilty to federal hate crime charges Tuesday in the death of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man who was chased and shot while jogging near his home, according to online court documents.
Greg McMichael, a 65-year-old former police officer; Travis McMichael, Greg McMichael s 35-year-old son; and William Roddie Bryan appeared in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Benjamin Cheesbro for their first court appearance since they were indicted on the federal charges.

The three men accused of murder and federal hate crimes in connection to the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery say they are not guilty.
Travis McMichael, age 35, along with 65-year-old Gregory McMichael and 51-year-old William Roddie Bryan were indicted on one count each of hate crimes and attempted kidnapping charges last month. The two McMichaels were also charged with separate federal counts of using firearms during a crime of violence.
The three white men charged with killing Ahmaud Arbery pleaded not guilty to the federal charges Tuesday. They are due in court on the state charges Wednesday.
