The 2021 municipal census has counted 15,569 people in 5,669 homes across the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo as of Friday.
The census campaign started April 1 and ends June 30. Data collected from the census helps with planning services, and is used by businesses and social profits to coordinate programs and plan for the future.

Timberlea leads with the most homes counted so far, with 2,609 of 13,589 homes (19.20 per cent) counted. Parsons Creek has a higher percentage of homes counted with 21.6 per cent, or 388 of 1,797 homes. In Thickwood, 20.1 per cent, or 1,186 of 5,912 homes, have been counted.

Jennifer Vardy, general manager of government relations for the Fort McKay Métis Nation, is running for one of six council seats in Ward 1.
In a Monday interview, Vardy announced she was running as an advocate for social services in the community and to bring attention to the issues they are fighting.
