No injuries reported at Jefferson, Iowa, grain elevator explosion

Des Moines Register An explosion at a grain elevator in Jefferson, Iowa, did not result in any injuries, according to the owner. Landus Cooperative reported on its corporate blog Friday morning that dust particles caused an explosion at its Jefferson location around 8 a.m. The company added that local fire and emergency workers responded to the scene and contained the damage. An investigation into the cause of the incident will be conducted, the company wrote. Local radio station KDLS reported that the explosion caused catastrophic property damage. Citing Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse, the station reported that the explosion blew a hole in a concrete wall, ripped off the tops of multiple grain bins and damaged catwalks and scaffolds. The west side of the building is crumbling, the station reported.

Iowa State Patrol Investigates Hit and Run Incident in Grand Junction

An alleged hit and run incident Tuesday night in Grand Junction resulted in life-threatening injuries. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred at 8:10pm at the intersection of 16th Street and Sandoe Street East. Seventy-two-year-old Robert Kinnick of Grand Junction was traveling north on 16th Street in a 2005 Dodge Ram truck when it hit 46-year-old Travis Fincel of Grand Junction, who was walking north – and within the roadway- on 16th Street.  Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams said  the pickup truck allegedly left the scene, and they found the vehicle parked at a Casey’s gas station, where Kinnick was taken in for questioning. Williams said Kinnick admitted to hitting Fincel.
