HELENA â The Montana Supreme Court Friday blocked all subpoenas issued by the state Legislature in the past week, that are seeking internal documents from the court, and said it will rule later on whether the requests are valid.
The unanimous order puts the brakes on an escalating face-off between the high court and Republican leadership at the Legislature, as GOP leaders sought emails and other documents from the court and the judiciary to investigate whether the court has pre-judged legislation that may come before it.

HELENA â The Montana Highway Patrol is making a big move over the next few months. MHP is shifting its headquarters 30 miles south â from Helena to the former Montana Developmental Center campus in Boulder.
Earlier this week, Governor Greg Gianforte issued an executive order, finalizing the transfer of most of the campus from the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services to the Montana Department of Justice.
MHP will begin moving into the former MDC administration building in the coming weeks. Among the roughly 25 employees making the move will be Col. Steve Lavin, who leads the agency, and other top administrators. Fiscal, records, training and equipment staff will also shift to Boulder.
