After months of shuttered doors, it’s been heartening to see Britain’s high streets, town centres and retail parks buzzing again.
But as much as we all want to get life back to normal, we also all want to stay safe. None of us want to squander the progress we’ve made in suppressing the virus – progress that hasn’t just allowed us to take the first steps back towards our old lives, but that has
saved lives too.
That means as we get back onto the High Street, retailers have done plenty of work to get ready for us – putting measures in place to reduce the risk of the virus unknowingly spreading.

Nestling on a hillside just outside one of the Lake Districtâs most famous villages â Grasmere, of Wordsworthâs Dove Cottage fame â this family-run former farm has two dog-friendly rooms and there are some excellent walking routes on your doorstep. Bedrooms are modern but cosy, ideal for recharging after a long day up on the fells. No need to check-in (handy in these Covid times), you simply pop in an entry code, take your boots off and head to your room. The lower ground floor houses The Bistro, where chef Will works his magic producing truly delicious plates â from an excellent braised-lamb shepherdâs pie to a vegetarian sharing feast of Sri Lankan dal, grilled halloumi with spicy beans and goatâs cheese pastries. Save space for the sticky toffee pud. Good rib-sticking stuff after a day of fresh Lake District air.
TOURISM Minister Nigel Huddleston MP has praised Cumbria as a year-round destination after he was in the county to see the wide range of businesses already welcoming visitors. Organised by Cumbria Tourism, the trip showcased a wide-ranging Cumbrian experience, both inside and outside the Lake District National Park, and the variety and quality of food and drink, accommodation, culture, heritage and adventure activities set within the dramatic background of Cumbria’s lakes and mountains. It was a busy day starting at the Lingholm Estate near Keswick where the Minister met various business owners from the area as well as some furry alpaca friends.
