Nobody was expecting blockbuster ratings for the 2021 Academy Awards. The pandemic era has - not surprisingly - seen an awards show viewing collapse: the Emmys fell by 12 per cent year-on-year to 6.1 million viewers, the Grammys by 53 per cent to 9.2m, and the Golden Globes by 60 per cent to 6.9m, while the film Baftas sunk to a 13-year low of just 2m viewers. The TV Baftas, which today announced their nominations, will likely follow suit. Even so, an Oscars ratings crash of 58 per cent (to a measly 9.85m) is a nightmare scenario for the Dream Factory.

The prototype Nike Air Yeezy 1s, which were premiered by the rapper when he performed Hey Mama and Stronger at the 2008 Grammy Awards, shattered the record of the most expensive pair of sneakers ever sold after they fetched $1.8 million in a private sale.
