FARRMS make grants to help farmers replace High Tunnel Covers

The Foundation for Agriculture, Rural Resources Management and Sustainability (FARRMS) offers financial assistance for high tunnel growers who have lost the plastic coverings on their high tunnels due to extreme weather. The ARCH grant (Assistance for Replacement of Coverings on High Tunnels) is a cost-share of 66% of the total cost, up to $500 for materials and supplies to replace the plastic covering on a high tunnel. The ARCH grant assists with costs for market producers who have lost to their high tunnel coverings due to weather from March 1, 2020, to June 1, 2021. This grant does not pay for structural damage or enhancements (end walls, supports structures, etc.), nor does it cover labor costs. FARRMS has disbursed nearly $4000 of the $5000 project fund in grants to ten farmers. We will accept applications until June 1, 2021. Those interested in applying should submit applications

DEVILS LAKE - FARRMS is recruiting interns for six North Dakota farmers markets. Interns spend a summer gaining marketing skills and helping their local farmers markets grow. Interns will assist at the farmers market, conduct customer counts and organize outreach and events. Markets hosting interns are BisMarket in Bismarck, Spirit Lake Mobile Farmers Market for the Spirit Lake Nation, Minot Farmers Market in Minot, North Prairie Farmers Market in Minot, Red River Market in Fargo, and Town Square Farmers Market in Grand Forks. These paid internships are up to 15 hours per week from June 13 through September 26, 2021.

Farmer-led sustainable business planning course helps launch new farmers
CANDO, N.D. – The Northern Plains Resource Conservation and Development Council has partnered with the Foundation for Agriculture, Rural Resources Management and Sustainability (FARRMS) to offer the Farm Beginnings® course for northeastern ND. The sustainable farm business course for beginning and transitioning farmers will be held online from late January through early April 2021. Participants will learn goal setting, whole farm planning, business plan development, financial management, marketing practices, and natural resource stewardship.
