Fire destroys Bowie business

Fire destroys Bowie business Fire swept through the Ace Hardware/Bowie Lumber Company in Bowie Monday, destroying the building at 602 W. Wise Street. The call came in about 8:45 p.m. and when City of Bowie firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the building and flames could be seen on the roof.   Bowie Fire Chief Doug Page said flames were already going pretty good and the heavy fire load inside helped fuel it. He expected it to be a total loss. Store officials report the last person out of the building was about 7:30 p.m., shortly after the store closed. Page said Tuesday morning the cause of the fire is under investigation.
