Small businesses and farms looking to have an energy audit to determine where they can save energy and utility costs can check in with Southern Maine Planning and Development, which recently received a $100,000 grant to provide subsidized energy audits in southern Maine.

SACO To help reduce energy use and costs in the region, Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission is creating an Energy Audit Program designed to help small businesses and farmers with energy efficiency upgrades.
New law gives more money for water projects

Gov. Doug Ducey on April 21 signed a bill that provides larger grants for developing water projects in rural areas, but questions linger on whether there will be any money for them.
House Bill 2388, sponsored by Rep. Gail Griffin, R-Hereford, expands the amount of a single grant from the Water Supply Development Revolving Fund from $100,000 to $250,000.
The recipient water provider must be located in a county with a population of fewer than 1.5 million people.
While Griffin said the fund isn’t just meant for rural areas, some experts who work with water believe the benefits can greatly help many rural communities.

Presley and others discussed how to bring community water to 27 homes surrounding the Benton and Tippah County line west of Falkner. Each home in question has its own well and is not in any community water systemâs territory.
