LEXINGTON, Ohio (AP) â IndyCar will celebrate Independence Day in the middle of Ohio â movies at sunset, fireworks at dark and finally a fantastic season of racing taking its show to the fabled sports car course.
The quaint Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course sits halfway between Cleveland and Columbus, nestled to the west of I-71 in Morrow County, where spectators have an equal chance of passing a six-figure luxury vehicle or a horse and buggy on the two lanes leading to the sprawling 380-acre park.
It isn’t true that Mid-Ohio hasn’t had a single upgrade since it opened in 1962, but the facility seems frozen in time. Wooden garage stalls, a small riser for victory lane and only 12,000 permanent seats make for a charming host for the Fourth of July party.

LEXINGTON, Ohio (AP) â Felix Rosenqvist and Rinus VeeKay returned to their cars at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Friday, where they were welcome sights in the IndyCar paddock but neither dazzled in their return from injury.
Rosenqvist was out two races following a crash last month at Detroit, an impact so severe the Swede was shocked it was concussion-like symptoms keeping him out of the car rather than a broken bone.
âYou only have one brain,” Rosenqvist said.
Rosenqvist was fast in his return to Arrow McLaren SP but spun to bring out a red-flag during the only practice session. He was 13th overall on the day, but just half a second off teammate Pato OâWard.
