HALIFAX As the province locked down Wednesday to slow the spread of COVID-19, Nova Scotia Premier Iain Rankin said the measures are part of a broader strategy to beat back the virus. We are limiting movement, we are testing at a record rate to detect the virus and we are rolling out our vaccine, Rankin said as health officials reported 75 new COVID-19 cases. The figure was down from the record 96 cases reported by the province Tuesday. Rankin meanwhile said the province is working to alleviate child care pressures for essential workers while schools are closed over the next two weeks, asking those who can to give up their spaces temporarily.

THE frustration of people awaiting vaccination against Covid-19 has been acknowledged by a leading Ross-shire GP amid appeals for patience.
Dr Miles Mack of Dingwall Medical Group â which has one of the largest patient lists in Ross-shire â said he was pleased how smooth the process had been to date given the huge logistical challenge.
He said: âWe have been tasked to ensure that the first people to be vaccinated are the ones who are the most at risk of becoming seriously ill and there is a clear and logical step by step sequence that we are working through. This has been set nationally. We understand just how frustrating it is for people as they wait their turn but please be reassured that we are arranging vaccination clinics as soon as we receive the vaccines in the

Dingwall councillor calls for engagement programme to help young people back to school

A former head teacher turned councillor has called on Highland Council to set up an engagement programme for Easter to help young people settle back into school after the latest lockdown.
Councillor Graham Mackenzie is the former head of Dingwall Academy, and says he’s seriously worried about the impact of the pandemic on young people and their mental health.
He is calling for High Life Highland to get involved with its furloughed staff and Active Schools co-ordinators in opening up buildings across the region and enabling a range of activities for primary and secondary pupils.
