Though he didn t appear in the pilot episode, he featured regularly from the first regular installment onwards and appeared in a total of 872 episodes.
The star played Reg for 24 years, before the character was sadly axed in January 2008.
Speaking in 2011 about the decision, Jeff told The Sun: I felt I had been badly let down.

The iconic television series - which ran between 1983 and 2010 - is set to return to screens with three of its original characters PC Tony Stamp, DC Jim Carver and Sgt June Ackland with Graham Cole, Trudie Goodwin and Mark Wingett in talks to appear in the new show.
A source said: The project started picking up pace last year after the cast got together to mark ten years since the show last aired. Simon started investigating the rights and managed to acquire them. Three of the best known stars are in talks and he’s hopeful he can get them on board. Tony has seen the script and they hope they can get him signed up too.
