Senior councillor says including public in ice rink update would be inappropriate

THE council has responded to concerns raised about its decision to recommend that public and press be excluded from hearing the latest update on Basingstoke s ice rink. Members of the council s Community, Environment and Partnerships (CEP) committee are receiving an update on the situation this evening (Wednesday December 16) from portfolio holder Cllr John Izett and council officer Kate Dean, after many expressed concern at a previous meeting about lack of action on the issue. Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council told the Gazette that the report to committee contains exempt information under the Local Government Act 1972. Many were unimpressed by the news, with one Facebook commenter writing: We have been waiting six months to hear what s in the report and suddenly they are excluding us!?!?
