Don t expect new required technology to stop all spam calls

Wednesday was the deadline for all large phone carriers to implement anti-robocall technology called STIR/SHAKEN.
It s a digital call verification system and it ensures calls actually come from the source or phone number showing up on caller ID.
But experts warn the technology doesn t stop all spam calls.
âI think there s a common misunderstanding that STIR/SHAKEN will block robocalls. The technology is not designed to do that necessarily. What it will do is just tell you whether or not you can trust the caller ID that the phone call you re receiving is coming from,â said Giulia Porter, Vice President of RoboKiller.

Travel is back and so are travel scams
With more widespread vaccinations and relaxed travel restrictions, many people are making long-awaited vacation plans. But scammers are making plans of their own to separate eager travelers from their money via too-good-to-be-true vacation packages, fake airfare deals and other shady schemes.
Consumer advocacy organizations such as Better Business Bureau are issuing warnings about an increase in incidents involving scammers who often pose as airline ticket brokers and travel agents via telemarketing calls.
Another common tactic is imposter or “spoofed” websites that mimic legitimate booking platforms for airfare, hotels or rental cars but do not deliver the product as promised.
As Covid vaccine roll outs help lift restrictions, many people are contemplating travel again. But as prices rise with demand, scammers are using fake air travel deals and other shady schemes to part people from their cash.
