Astronomers from the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium have made public the first part of the third major data release from the European Space Agency’s Gaia spacecraft. The findings, published or being reviewed in a series of papers in the journal
Astronomy & Astrophysics, accurately mapped the position of 1,811,709,771 stars in our Milky Way galaxy, including the distances from Earth and relative motions of 1,467,744,818 of those stars.

Six months ago, BIPOC jewelry professionals put out a call for greater equality and diversity in the trade, but how much has changed since then?
RAPAPORT. The dearth of representation for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) in the jewelry trade became the focus of a new manifesto and open letter that burst onto the scene half a year ago, following the killing of George Floyd at the hands of police in May and the resulting Black Lives Matter movement.
RAPAPORT. The Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) has chosen Susan Chandler, the chief merchandising officer for Citizen Watch America, as president-elect of its international board of directors. She will serve in the position during the term of office that runs from 2022 to 2023.
In her role at WJA, Chandler will help foster community, connection and collaboration within the trade, the association said Wednesday. Last year, she served as the WJA sponsorship chair, and was instrumental in raising money for the organization and securing keynote speakers for the WJA’s events.
“We believe that Susan’s strong leadership experience will not only contribute to the future growth and vibrancy of WJA, but will also inspire greater community and connection centered around women working and leading in the jewelry industry as a whole,” said WJA president Jacqueline Cassaway. “Susan’s connections inside and outside th
