Confederate monument valued at $500,000 disappears for weeks from Alabama in strange incident
Where’s the chair?
That’s the puzzling question officials and locals alike were left wondering in March after a chair monument honoring Confederate president Jefferson Davis believed to weigh around 500 pounds disappeared from its plot in Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Ala.
The chair was recovered on April 9 all the way in New Orleans.
The United Daughters of the Confederacy, which the chair belongs to, alerted authorities that the monument was missing on March 20 and tried to raise awareness through an advertisement in a newspaper.
A group that identified itself as “White Lies Matter” then claimed to be behind it.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Hospitalizations linked to COVID-19 have jumped about 20% in less than two weeks in Alabama, a trend that health officials said Tuesday they were monitoring but don t consider a sign of another coming crisis in the pandemic.
Statistics from the Alabama Department of Public Health showed 362 people were hospitalized Monday for the illness caused by the new coronavirus. Though up from the 301 patients just 10 days earlier, the total was still just a fraction of the 3,070 patients who pushed the state s intensive care wards to near capacity in mid-January.
