By Kwak Yeon-soo
Following its predecessors Stray Kids and ATEEZ, K-pop girl group LOONA will represent Korean culture overseas this year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Monday.
The culture ministry said it has named the 12-member group, comprised of Heejin, Hyunjin, Haseul, Yeojin, ViVi, Kim Lip, Jinsoul, Choerry, Yves, Chuu, Go Won and Olivia Hye, as the country s honorary ambassador to promote Korean culture abroad.
For its first act as envoy, LOONA will appear in public video clips, including a piece on Talk Talk Korea, an international Korea-related content competition hosted by the ministry s affiliate the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS).

When LOONA released Star, a new version of its Korean song Voice entirely sung in English, little did they imagine it would go on to make history on U.S. radio charts, a territory that has proven tough for non-English acts.
At a time when K-pop acts are collaborating with prominent overseas artists to break into the global music industry, the 12-piece act from a small agency in Seoul instead opted to release an English version of one of its Korean songs.
