Police: Man's body found outside abandoned Penn Hills home

A young man was found shot to death Monday evening outside an abandoned Penn Hills home. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Jason Hubert Jackson Jr., 17, of Pittsburgh. Police Chief Howard Burton said residents along Gibson Street reported hearing multiple gunshots around 7:15 p.m. Responding officers searched the area and found the body of a black man lying outside a structure at the end of the street. Gibson Street is a dead-end road off Orange Street. Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene, Allegheny County Police said. Burton said they have no information about possible suspects or what led to this incident. Allegheny County homicide detectives are investigating.

State, local and Sonnenberg Garden officials break ground

MPNnow CANANDAIGUA   Officials from New York, Canandaigua and the Board of Directors at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park broke ground Friday for a new entrance and visitor center to the historic venue. Estimated to be completed sometime in 2021, according to Sonnenberg Executive Director David Hutchings, the $6.1 million project will provide a new entrance for visitors, room for on-site archives, permanent offices for Sonnenberg staff, new maintenance facilities and enough parking for 140 cars.  Hutchings added that with this project and the $7.2 million in restoration done over his 15 years as executive director, we re returning the estate to its original position on the Finger Lakes, adding that it was a jewel of the region.

When used sharps are discarded improperly, such as in recycling, garbage or even in a public place, it is often the result of not having a place to properly dispose of them.
