May 13, 2021 YOUNGSTOWN David Vincent Hlinka, 62, lifelong resident of the city’s West Side, passed away at his parents’ home late Monday morning, May 10, 2021, with family and friends by his side, following a 15-month battle with cancer. David, who was affectionately known to many as “JR,” and fondly to his mother as “Sweet Pea,” was born Oct. 10, 1958, in Youngstown, a son of Richard Hlinka Sr. and Mary Lou Hagerty Hlinka. He was a 1977 graduate of Chaney High School and of Choffin Career Center, where he learned his trade as a machinist. Mr. Hlinka worked at his “second home,” Tri-R-Dies in Youngstown and Boardman, for 43 years. He was very dedicated to his craft and loved the people he worked with.

May 11, 2021 YOUNGSTOWN Peter Piergiovanni, 99, formerly of Austintown, passed away peacefully Monday morning, May 3, 2021, at his home at Canfield Place. Peter was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Rillton, Pa., and was a son of the late Daniel and Jennie Polato Piergiovanni. Mr. Piergiovanni proudly served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, participating in the Battle of The Bulge and earning a Silver Star. After his honorable discharge from the military, he returned to the area and played in various golf and baseball leagues. Peter worked for U.S. Steel at the Ohio Works for 35 years. He was of the Catholic faith.

May 6, 2021 YOUNGSTOWN David J. “Dave” Crincic, 65, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Monday evening, May 3, 2021, at his home. Dave was born May 12, 1955, in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Helen Petro Crincic. He grew up in Austintown, was a 1973 graduate of Fitch High School, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Crincic worked for Indelex / Easco Aluminum in Girard and then for Extrudex Aluminum in North Jackson, and retired in 2018. He was a citizens band and ham radio enthusiast. His CB radio call sign was “Old Dirt” and he operated his ham radio under the call sign KB8JHB. Dave enjoyed garage sales, flea markets, swap meets and car shows, and he enjoyed restoring his Chevy Stepside pickup truck.

May 1, 2021 AUSTINTOWN Delores J. Anzelmo, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, April 29, 2021, at The Woodlands at AustinWoods, following a lengthy struggle with dementia. Delores was born March 27, 1937, in Youngstown, the youngest of 12 children born to Harold LeRoy Hinkson and Lydia Brown Hinkson. She attended South High School and lived her life in this area. Mrs. Anzelmo was very active and always kept busy. Before her marriage, she worked for the Robert Hall Clothing Store and for the Mahoning County Treasurer’s office. In her younger years, she was also a poll worker for the Mahoning County Board of Elections, was a member of the Austintown PTA and volunteered for the Easter Seals Amplyopia program screening in area preschools.

May 1, 2021 CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. Catherine Maruschak Malley, 84, longtime resident of the Youngstown area, passed into Eternal Life on Monday, April 26, 2021, at her home in Michigan. Catherine was born Feb. 22, 1937, in Youngstown, and was the youngest child of John and Anna Paruch Maruschak. She was raised in Youngstown and lived in this area until moving to Parma in 1997, later moving to Michigan in 2015. She was a 1954 graduate of Chaney High School and then earned a Registered Nurse Diploma from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1957. Catherine proudly worked in the nursing field for over 50 years. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and photography.
