1. The translation was motivated by a belief that Scripture is sacred and that the words of the Bible are the very words of God.
“[The Bible] is the most valuable thing that this world affords. Here is Wisdom; this is the royal Law; these are the lively Oracles of God.” With these words the Moderator of the Church of Scotland hands a Bible to the new monarch in Britain’s coronation service. These words echo the King James Bible translators, who wrote in 1611, “God’s sacred Word . . . is that inestimable treasure that excelleth all the riches of the earth.” This assessment of the Bible was the motivating force behind the publication of the English Standard Version in 2001.

Rockbridge County cattle and small grains producer Russell L. Williams II was recognized Jan. 26 for five years of service on the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation board of directors.
VFBF President Wayne F. Pryor presented an award to Williams during a virtual Farm Bureau board meeting.
As the organization’s District 5 director, Williams represents Farm Bureau producer members in Amherst, Augusta, Bath, Highland, Nelson, Rockbridge and Rockingham counties.
EDWARD J. RAPINCHUK July 10, 1934 – Jan. 8, 2021
Edward John Rapinchuk, a resident of Oakdale for 58 years, slipped into eternity into the arms of Jesus on January 8, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born July 10, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, to Andrew and Susan Rapinchuk, the sixth of ten children. He attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, before graduating with a degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign, in 1957. He met a young student nurse, Marilyn Erickson, at a roller-skating rink, and they married in 1957; they were married for 59 years until her death in 2017. In 1961, they moved to Fremont, California, where he became employed by Hunt Foods and Industries. A year later, they would call Oakdale home after being transferred to Hunt Foods in Oakdale, where he was plant engineer for a number of years. He retired in 2017 from Howk Well Systems in Modesto.
A Montgomery County man, who federal authorities described as a ”self professed white supremacist,” was arrested over the weekend for participating in the riots at the U.S. Capitol, court records show.
