Leechburg Memorial Day Parade is back on

Leechburg’s Memorial Day Parade will happen after all. The borough had announced it was canceling the annual parade for the second year in a row because of the covid-19 pandemic. But following Tuesday’s announcement that Gov. Tom Wolf plans to ease gathering restrictions in time for the federal holiday, borough officials reversed course. “I’m actually ecstatic that we can have a parade,” said Mayor Wayne Dobos. “I am a Vietnam veteran, and Memorial Day is quite special.” The governor said that capacity limits on restaurants, theaters, indoor and outdoor spaces, and other businesses will be dropped on Memorial Day, while the state’s masking order will remain in place. Wolf said masks would be required until 70% of Pennsylvania adults are fully vaccinated.

The Journey of James Potter: A British Officer Ascends Mt Nittany and Spots a Fertile Valley Below

“My God, Thompson, I have discovered an empire!” From his perch at the peak of McBride’s Gap on Mount Nittany, Captain James Potter marveled at the pristine valley that stretched before his company. The company had been traveling for days searching for suitable locations for a British fort. As their leader, Potter seemed never to be satisfied … until now. Our story of Captain Potter’s famed expedition begins years earlier in 1756. The British Colony of Pennsylvania was center stage in a massive conflict, the French and Indian War. Having been sparked by events near Pittsburgh, the war brought much conflict to Pennsylvania. The Appalachian Mountains, the frontier of our vast country in the mid-1700s, were embroiled in a complex web of alliances between Native American tribes and European nations, leading to horrific tales of violence in the backcountry.
