Our young people are at the frontline : Business leaders have joined nationwide protests against Australian inaction on climate change

The Australia-wide protests mark the first school climate strike since the start of the pandemic last year. The events are backed by strong support from Australian tech and business leaders including Atlassian and Canva. Following a Federal Budget which left the climate agenda for dead, thousands of school children are protesting government inaction on climate change, receiving vocal support from an extensive list of Australian businesses. The protests, which will take place across Australia, mark the first school climate strike since the start of the pandemic last year and are particularly focused on the federal government’s new funding for gas-fired power.

School climate strike: Thousands of students strike to demand action

Students across Australia have skipped school to demand government action on climate change. Marches were today planned for 50 cities and towns around the country and thousands have gathered with placards calling on the government to #FundOurFutureNotGas. The protesters want the Federal Government to withdraw support and subsidies for gas projects and instead fund renewable energy initiatives and First Nations-backed solutions for protecting the environment.
