As sitcom slumps in the Christmas Day ratings
Mrs Brown’s Boys star Gary Hollywood is suing the show’s creator Brendan O’Carroll in a row over pay.
The actor - who plays Dino Doyle in the sitcom – claims constructive dismissal and workplace discrimination.
In an interview with today’s Daily Star Sunday the actor claims he was paid less than his co-stars in All Round To Mrs Brown’s, the entertainment format spun off from the hit BBC sitcom.
And he claims that when he complained, he was axed from a festive special.
The 41-year-old actor told the newspaper: ‘I feel I wasn’t being paid equally and I wasn’t being given an explanation for decisions. When I tried to resolve it, nothing was done.’
Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, Ghosts, Motherland, QI and King Gary
The BBC has been slammed for a Christmas schedule that’s heavy on animated films, reruns and Mrs Brown’s Boys – criticism which seems a bit harsh given this has not exactly been the easiest of years to film stuff.
However, tonight there’s a great run of festive comedy programming, none of which the Corporation, in its wisdom, included in its previews list of weekly highlights circulated to journalists. No wonder it got a pasting in the press when thus line-up was left out!
Ease yourself into the night with Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing (6.30pm, BBC Two), which is always as welcoming as a warm bath - even if the water the pair often end up waist-deep in is a little chillier.

BBC One sitcom King Gary aired yesterday (Wednesday, December 23) at 10pm. This was the first Christmas special for the well-loved comedy series, but some fans may be curious to know when the show was filmed. Express.co.uk spoke to the cast and creators Tom Davis and Laura Checkley for their insight on shooting during the global coronavirus crisis.

Well lush? Tom Davis as Gary

We’ve all had to adjust our expectations in 2020. So it is with the festive schedules. Last year, BBC One gave us the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special. This year we get the
King Gary Christmas Special (BBC One), which doesn’t garner quite the same levels of excitement.
That’s not to say King Gary lacks charm. Tom Davis is just loveable enough as Gary the builder, forever trying to impress his neighbours on Essex’s Butterchurn Crescent. Those neighbours include the weary Stuart (Romesh Ranganathan), who in this episode had no desire to get involved in Gary’s plans for a lavish Christmas lights display. Meanwhile, Gary was trying to please his dad, Big Gary (The Fast Show’s Simon Day), by nailing a big deal for the family firm.
