Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Mayor Mike Facey was re-elected to his role for a second year by members of the Town Council on Monday night (May 10th) during the Annual Town Council Meeting.
It was the council’s first first face-to-face public meeting for 13 months due to virtual meetings being held during the pandemic.
Councillors also selected Cllr Andy Hodge as Burnham and Highbridge’s Deputy Mayor and Nick Tolley as Second Deputy Mayor, as pictured above.
During the meeting at King Alfred School Academy in Highbridge, Cllr Facey said he would continue to work cross-party, adding: “Thank you for everyone’s support during a challenging year. It’s an honour to be re-elected as Mayor for a second year.”
DANIEL Maydew, 17, of The King Alfred School Academy (TKASA), has finished first in the English Schools AA Virtual Cross Country Championships. The high-flying teenager has been running for Wells City Harriers since Year 8, spending most days of the week training. Now his hard work has paid off with the prestigious title of England’s best. Maydew’s sporting success is all the more impressive in light of his academic record, achieving straight A grades in his GCSE exams in 2020. He is also progressing very well in his A Levels in Maths, English Literature and History at the Sixth Form. Head of Sixth Form at TKASA, Jonathan Gaskell, said: “This is a tremendous achievement. Daniel is excelling in his sporting and academic activities, exhibiting great time management and organisational skills.

She now takes over the highly prestigious University of Sheffield Students’ Union, which was awarded the Whatuni Student Choice Award for Best Students’ Union for the fourth consecutive year in 2020. It was also voted number one students union by the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey for 10 years running, until the survey closed in 2018. Evie will take up her position this summer, having put environment and sustainability at the heart of her plans.

A former Highbridge sixth form student has become President of a leading university’s Studentsâ Union.
Evie Croxford, a former top A level student at The King Alfred School Academy, has just been elected President of the prestigious University of Sheffield Studentsâ Union.
The group was awarded the ‘Whatuni Student Choice Award’ for Best Studentsâ Union for the fourth consecutive year in 2020 and was also voted number one by the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey for 10 years running before the survey closed in 2018.
Evie can’t wait to take up her position this summer and intends to put the environment and sustainability at the heart of her plans.
