Kilkenny Civil Defence commended for work during the pandemic Reporter:   ); The trojan efforts of Kilkenny Civil Defence was acknowledged at the month meeting of Kilkenny Council Council with members praising them for their work, especially during Covid-19. Katherine Peacock made a presentation to members and outlined the work that she does along with a team of dedicated volunteers. Ms Peacock also highlighted the need for a new home for Kilkenny Civil Defence and this was supported by several members. During the ongoing national emergency the team of volunteers completed 350 Covid-19 related duties with volunteers giving 2,112 hours of time and effort supporting their communities. Duties included packing and delivering 340 care boxes to the elderly, children with disabilities and vulnerable families, 100 medical transports to hospitals, doctors and Covid Assessment Units and administrative support to the Irish Blood Transfusion Service for 5 weeks.

Still closed: Pink Rock landslide leaves scenic road impassable in south Kilkenny Remedial works may be needed Reporter:   ); Motorists and pedestrians in south Kilkenny are being warned of a ‘dangerous’ situation at the Pink Rock. Last week a landslide occurred in the scenic area, making the road impassable to both vehicles and walkers. The road will remain closed until at least the end of this week, when a consultant has formally assessed the area. On the night of Monday, February 1, gardaí informed Kilkenny County Council that there had been a rockfall on the road at the Pink Rock. Council staff inspected the road and it was closed immediately that night. A daylight inspection and the removal of the material that had fallen onto the road followed the next day.

Damien Geoghegan at the North Quays, Waterford. );   ); Members of Kilkenny County Council have vowed to continue to work in partnership and co-operation with their neighbouring local authorities and refuted any suggestion from Waterford for the need for a boundary change at the December Monthly Meeting of Kilkenny County Council yesterday. The matter was raised by a number of councillors following the passing of a motion by Cllr Maria Dollard which stated that Kilkenny County Council strengthen their partnership and collaboration with Waterford City and County Council with the aim being to move towards regional co-operation.
