Alice Newton turned 100 having a great hair day.
She still makes her weekly hair appointments in Leechburg and was coiffed and ready to usher in triple digits on Friday.
Relaxing by the fire in her rural Gilpin home, Alice chimed in on her new centenarian status.
“I”ll tell ya, it doesn’t feel any different,” she said. “To celebrate, be with family … that’s the number one.”
Newton lives with her daughter-in-law, Patty Newton, on 100-plus acres that once served as a family weekend destination. She planned on enjoying a glass of wine, pizza and cake for her birthday supper.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Nickolas Connor Hughes, who went to fly with the angels on January 25, 2021, at the age of 11.
Nickolas was born July 6, 2009 in Mountain Home, Idaho to Amanda Hughes and James Lambrecht. His short time on this earth was shared with two families, who loved him dearly. Nick was such an animated young man who liked to make light of situations and had an infectious smile, which filled the room, and his silliness brought laughter to to all. He cared deeply for what was right and would step in to protect those he felt were being wronged. He enjoyed hiking, camping and exploring with his families. Nick was a skilled XBox player, enjoyed Pokemon Go, shooting hoops, playing with his little cousin, Annabell, and watching his beloved Seattle Seahawks.
